Combat Focus® Shooting & RockTape® announce collaboration on new program for Shooting Instructors.

I am very excited about a program that we’ve been working on for a few months now:  A collaboration with the Kinesiology Tape manufacturer RockTape® to create a program that makes learning intuitive shooting more efficient and assists defensive shooting instructors on the range. The therapeutic value of “taping” is well known in regard to injury prevention and maintenance. The value that taping brings to the learning experience when it comes to motor skill development is a lesser known, but very well established field of study. Over the summer, Omari Broussard, Alessandro Padovani and other CFS Instructors worked with Dr. Brandon Trujillo to develop the specific taping techniques that would most enhance both a student’s experience learning on the range and maximize the value of an instructor’s time. After meeting with Dr. Trujillo in July and learning more about the processes involved and doing some independent research on the underlying science, I gave the go ahead for formalizing with relationship with the program. I am very excited about the potential for Dynamic Shooting Taping.

RJP_RT_01Kinesiology tape has an elastic nature that creates significant feedback during movement. By taping specific areas related to movement or position errors, a student can “feel” the correction they need to make during training and practice. Once the correction is made, the additional neural feedback increases the physical changes that occur in the brain that create patterns of learned movement that can be counted on under stress (“muscle memory”). By involving the surface of the skin in the feedback loop, more nerves are activated and a stronger pattern is created. This increases the value of each repetition on the range.

The first Dynamic Shooting Taping seminar and certification course will be run this Friday in Bakersfield (CA) as part of the 6th Annual Combat Focus® Shooting Instructor Conference. Instructors attending that seminar will have the chance to apply the techniques on students during the weekend’s CFS Course under the supervision of Dr. Trujillo.

Rocktape® announces partnership with Combat Focus® Shooting First Dynamic Shooting Taping clinic to be held this September in Bakersfield CA.

(Sept 23, 2013—Los Gatos, CA) RockTape®, the world’s strongest brand of kinesiology tape, announced today that it is extending its Defensive Movement Taping clinics (DMT) for tactical instructors through a partnership with Combat Focused Shooting. Dynamic Shooting Taping (DST), a new clinic which has been co-developed by Rob Pincus of CFS, and CFS Instructors, Omari Broussard, Alessandro Padovani and Dr. Brandon Trujillo of Chiropractic Revolutions, will focus on increasing shooting accuracy and response times using the proprioceptive capabilities of Rocktape.

Rob Pincus of I.C.E. Training Company, the developer of Combat Focus® Shooting and co-owner of Crossfit Endeavor is excited about this collaboration. “I’ve been using some of the Dynamic Shooting Taping techniques with students on the range over the past month and have seen impressive results,” said Pincus. “Using RockTape allows the student to get constant feedback about their arm or shoulder position to correct errors. This means I can spend 2 minutes taping and not need to address certain things again for the rest of the day. The student’s movement creates its own reminder of proper form.” The first DMT certification course, which will include DST instruction, will take place in Bakersfield, CA on September 27th as part of the 6th Annual Combat Focus® Shooting Instructor Conference, attended by defensive shooting instructors from every region of the United States.

“After working with well-known tactical instructors from all over the globe, last July we announced a new line of RockTape specifically designed for tactical training and in-field work, said RockTape CEO, Greg van den Dries. “RockTape’s DMT series and CFS’ DST clinics are the next step in helping the tactical community train for and go out and confidently do their jobs.” When applied to the skin, RockTape restores the muscle by promoting blood flow to the injured area. It is thin, light, supportive and comfortable to wear for up to 5 days, and is perfect for treating a wide variety of athletics. RockTape also assists in coordination and movement. When students fatigue, they lose form which could affect their response time or increase the number of missed targets. RockTape can stabilize joints so movements are better coordinated. “The rigor of any training course and the strength needed for both training and in the field is critical to ensuring accuracy and safety,” said Brandon Trujillo, RockTape medical staff and DMT instructor. “DMT gives instructors more information on how the body responds to training – instantly and over time – and helps them better prepare for the physical demands of tactical exercises.”
