It is not all that surprising then, that one of the best shooters in the world, my buddy Rob Leatham, recently posted a video (which bordered on a rant) extolling the importance of the 5th grade physical science fact: All other things being equal, a typical .45acp round delivers more energy on a target than a typical 9mm round. My own experience, experimentation and research has lead me to the conclusion that 9mm is a better choice despite its smaller diameter, lower mass and the generally lower levels of both force and momentum that it brings when compared to .40S&W and .45acp.

I have long been an advocate of training conferences for having a huge “Bang for your Buck” factor… and it doesn’t get much better than 12 Sessions for ZERO BUCKS.

The XD-S 4″ came out, passed reliability testing and I kinda fell in love with it. That was 2014. There is a lot of stock put into what guns any of the leaders in the training or shooting communities choose. Sometimes that is a great thing, sometimes: not so much. The question that was asked this morning is a good one to ask if you have someone you admire or look to for quality information. Why are they using the gear they are using. Sometimes you’ll get a good story that is organic and genuine… one that makes sense to you. Sometimes you’ll be told flat out: They’re paying me to use it. Other times, you won’t get much to go on and you’ll be left guessing.

Over time, the approach that I (and now many others) advocate has started to catch on. Safety is not simply a set of rules that you recite and then ignore when you need to or when it is convenient or when “everyone knows” they don’t apply. Safety with firearms is a Concept. That concept is best summed up as Balancing Risk and Benefit. Safety requires critical thinking and gun handling specifics need to be adapted to accommodate activity, location and context.

ust be distracting us. What good is the right to carry a gun in a State that restricts the possession of the type of gun you carry, the type of ammunition you rely on or the magazines you load? Is National Reciprocity really a win if it replaces the current system in your State that serves you well, increases costs and extends waiting times? The fact is that “National Reciprocity” isn’t even on the table for a RKBA Purist, as the whole permitting process undermines the Constitutionally Protected Right to Keep and Bear Arms. What we should be talking about is National Right to Carry, not a new or expanded version of the current infringement.

This year’s PDN Training Tour offered the most diverse collection of courses we’ve ever offered. One of the more unique courses that was taught in a few locations across the country was I.C.E. Training’s Two Person Armed Defense. A Team Tactics Course specifically designed for the everyday person who spends a lot of time with other people who are armed. It is not a fantasy camp class where students pretend to be SWAT Team Members or perform bounding overwatch across open ranges with burning cars and smoke grenades creating great photo ops, but no practical value.

Sig P320s banned from Live Fire Courses… and WHY.

Officially: Sig P320s that are not Improved to the new factory specs (or otherwise modified to reduce Drop Fire Risk) may not be used in I.C.E. Training Company Live Fire classes. While their response to the safety issue is currently being touted as a Voluntary Program, I wouldn’t be surprised if this actually evolves into a more traditional “Recall” at some point.

Sig P320 Drop Fire Issue: The gun needs a Trigger Block Safety

Last week, the dam started to leak around a Drop Fire issue with the Sig P320. It is always easy to dismiss the first indications of a problem like this to Operator Error or Internet Rumor… but, that is no longer possible with this one. Sig P320’s have a design flaw… but, I honestly think it was pretty obvious when the gun was first released: It should have a Trigger Block Safety.
