This is the first in a series of articles that I am writing for Personal Defense Network. The series intends to be a complete overview of Self Defense from the proverbial “50,000 foot view”. The audience is both those new to self defense concepts as well as those already engaged in actively looking out for themselves, though they will be served in different ways. My hope is that those new to these issues get a solid introduction and avoid many of the pitfalls that I made myself in the past, and have witnessed countless others make, in regard to priorities, resource expenditures and assumptions. Those with more experience will hopefully find value in refreshing their perspectives on the fundamentals while possibly also finding inspiration to fill a gap or two in their current approach to personal safety and security.
